Contemporary Forms + Improvisation

Designed to build a healthy balance of strength and flexibility in the body, while improving overall stability and increasing range of motion, this class will teach dancers to move in and out of the floor with fluid efficiency. Technique exercises are inspired by Laban/Barteneiff Fundamentals, Cunningham Technique, and Banning Bouldin’s Flooring/Falling/Sliding syllabus.

Improvisation tasks will set the tone for the class, giving participants the space to research the body’s natural energetic directions and to try on various dynamics and coordination. These tasks will influence the approach to any technique exercises. Phrase work is often accompanied by improvisation tasks designed to stimulate imaginations and open new movement possibilities.

Dancers will be encouraged to discover new ways of thinking about and embodying known and rehearsed forms.

Contemporary workshop: For Pre-professionals and adults alike. We will spend an hour working on contemporary choreography with professional dancer Kellis Oldenburg. Please arrive warmed up or take the ballet class before the workshop to ensure you are ready to dance. This one hour class does not include warm-up.

PRIVATE LESSONS & CHOREOGRAPHY

All of us at Live Oak are interested in developing new artists in New Orleans. Taking privates is a great way to move ahead in a short period of time, but privates are not a substitute for a regular group class. For this reason, private classes are a privilege of students participating in classes at Live Oak Dance. To schedule a private with one of our faculty please contact Jarina.
